The Route
Take the Ambleside Road from Keswick (or Glendale) and turn right on to Springs Rd.
Approx 200mtrs turn right onto a footpath and enter Castlehead Woods thru a small gate..
Take the path to the right and continue up hill thru the Woods and with a final scramble up a rocky section you come out on to the wonderfull viewpoint of Castlehead. Some time can be spent enjoying the view but this is just the start of your walk.

Continue by retracing your steps for approx 200 mtrs and turn left on a feint path downhill passed a wooden bench.

Cross over Borrowdale Road and take the footpath towards the lake and Cockshot Wood.

When the Lakeshore is reached turn left passing Friars Crag (Ruskins Monument) carry on along the shore crossing small bridge and thru a gate in to wet woodland. At the gate take the path right to Calfclose Bay (Centenary Stone). Entering the wooded area of Calfclose Bay turn away from the Lake and cross the Borrowdale Road and enter Great Wood.

Once in the Woods take track in a southerly direction below Walla Crag bringing you to a footbridge at the base of Catgill. Contine along the undulating and sometimes rocky path for approx 1 mile to Ashness Bridge. (Time must be taken to enjoy this spot)

Turn North and return to the gate in the wall and take the path up the hill side. Continue NNE to Walla Crag summit.

Turn East and leave the summit and cross the wall, joining the path NE down a grassy slope, thru a gate and down to the footbridge at Rakefoot.

Join a narrow lane and after approx 200mtrs turn left thru a gate joining a footpath NW to Springs Farm.

From the Farm rejoin Springs Road then turn left on Ambleside Rd back to your start point.
